the Shagway Sessions

the Shagway Sessions

The Northern Michigan troubadour uses ancient American styles to
examine a changing modern world.
For over twenty years, veteran singer/songwriter Lynn Callahan has been
traveling across North America, chronicling the human condition with his true to
life storytelling and soulful voice. His latest release, the five track ‘Shagway
Sessions’ sees him examining timeless themes in the modern world, and
realizing that the more things change the more they stay the same.
With its chugging country rhythms and wandering slide guitars, opening track
‘Liza Jane’ sets the stage for what’s to come. “Come ride that freedom train,”
Lynn sings, echoing a sentiment that has been sung in folk songs for centuries.
He and his bandmates deliver a convincing performance, conjuring images of
wide open spaces and the promise of the American dream.
Lynn then shows his impressive blues chops on the bleak ‘Dirty Little War’
before segueing into album highlight ‘Crack In The Sidewalk.’ An intricate and
ultimately heartbreaking narrative, it is Lynn at his brutally honest but
compassionate best.
By the closing lines of ‘Brighter Days,’ Lynn has told a lifetime’s worth of stories
in five short songs. “This is the price we pay,” he sings. “There’ll be better
days.” His sentiments will continue to ring true to fans of good
songwriting everywhere.
